Don’t take our word for it…here’s what one of our students has to say.

“The location of Mines is incredible. My friends from home come here on vacation to do the stuff I do every weekend. Besides being two hours away from ~10 ski resorts, Mines is in between Denver and Boulder, allowing for a 20 minute drive between a booming metropolis, and an iconic city.”

Ben Butler
Class of 2021, B.S. Electrical Engineering

Welcome to your future home!

Colorado School of Mines is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado. Golden is home to approximately 20,000 residents with a thriving, friendly downtown, just a few minutes stroll from our campus. Walk four blocks and you can kayak down Clear Creek, cross the street and head up Mnt. Zion for road biking, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking or parasailing/paragliding adventures.

Denver is a breezy 20 minute drive (or 30 minute lightrail ride), Boulder is about 30 minutes away and oh yes, world class ski resorts are about 1-2 hours from campus.

As an incoming freshman or transfer student, you have not technically declared your major. The major indicated in your admissions application and posted on your Trailhead account is your intended major. You are encouraged to explore each of the majors, minors and areas of special interest available at Mines.

Freshman typically declare their official major during the second semester of their sophomore year with CASA. At that time, you will will complete a Declaration of Major Form and will be assigned a faculty advisor. Transfer students typically declare during the first or second semester at Mines.
